Milk the ‘New Fashioned’ Way

Keep it Simple. That is how I think about living “healthy.”  I don’t know about you, but remembering which vitamins do what and what foods do and don’t combine well or cause belly fat is way too much! I find that following a few basic principles is a great start to your health: let’s make healthy really easy!

Inflammation causes poor health and we’ve known that for years. It causes all sorts of disease. There are a few foods we all know and love that are easy to find, taste great, AND significantly reduce inflammation!

Our first DIY recipe is ALMOND MILK!

Almonds have a lot of protein so it keeps you full longer. They also contain high amounts of unsaturated fat which helps prevent heart disease. When you may think about making your own Almond Milk, the first thought that comes to your mind is likely “too complicated” or “I’ll just buy it in the store instead.” Skip the preservatives in the milk on the shelf and taste the difference when you make it yourself. Spoiler alert: it actually tastes like almonds!

Here are the steps and what you need!

Well, practically any blender will do since the almonds have been soaked and are quite soft. This one is a great price and has great reviews. I first put in the almonds after I have rinsed and rinsed then drained them. Fill the blender about 2/3 full of purified water. Blend and pour through the […]

Practically any blender will do since the almonds have been soaked and are quite soft. Rinse nuts thoroughly and drain then soak overnight (or 8-10 hours). I just soak in the blender because there are fewer dishes to wash. You will want to fill the blender so the nuts only fill about 1/4- 1/3 of the blender.
Fill the blender about  2/3 full of purified water.Blend on high for 2-3 minutes – they need to be thoroughly blended. Once completed, pour through the nut bag.

Step 3: After Blending, Squeeze Through This Nut Bag:

  • Step 3 – After Blending, Squeeze through this bag.

It’s really easy to do this. Just make sure you blend until the nuts are completely crushed and all that is left is the consistency of nutty flour. Put the bag inside the pitcher or jar – you can drape it over the edges depending upon the jar neck size. Pour and squeeze, repeat. Then […]

Once Step 2 is complete (just make sure you blend until the nuts are completely crushed and all that is left is the consistency of nutty meal), put the bag inside the pitcher or jar – you can drape it over the edges depending upon the jar neck size. Pour and squeeze, repeat. Squeeze out all the milk leaving the almond meal in the nut bag! It’s that easy!!! Don’t throw away the meal. You can use it as gluten free flour in pancakes, brownies, granola – lot’s of way to use it if you if you don’t want to be wasteful! Just spread it out on a cookie sheet and dry at low heat in the oven (200 degrees for about an hour or two) then freeze until you make cookies, pancakes, healthy breakfast bars or granola or whatever you want!

Step 4: Refrigerate in a Covered Glass Container:

  • Step 4 – Refrigerate with a covered glass container

Nice wide mouth pitcher is easier since there is enough room to squeeze the full nut bag. Fresh almond milk must be stored in the fridge and needs to be in glass and covered. You can add more water if you want a more skim milk variety or vanilla if you like a little more […]

This is another pretty storage pitcher – although a wide mouth jar or pitcher is easier to squeeze into. Fresh almond milk must be stored in the fridge and needs to be in glass and covered. You can add more water if you want a more skim milk variety or vanilla if you like a little more flavor. Making your own already has more flavor than if you buy it off the shelf.

ENJOY!
